TSCO "Vegas to Reno" Course Change |
 |
 |
For the past two days I have been dealing with some environmental issues that have come up regarding the 2008 TSCO “Vegas to Reno” event. There is a course change and I know this effects your race logistics (i.e. your pit plan, your rider changes, your fuel consumption) and I am very sorry for the inconvenience this is going to cause you. The most important thing is that you change your motel reservations for the Pre-Fun Run from Pahrump to Beatty. Please know I understand what a hassel this and I apologize. I think the most important thing is that this race continue and please click on READ MORE to read the full explanation of what has transpired and what to do next. For the race, we are still in Las Vegas at the South Point, we just have a longer transfer section to the start line. I have sent this letter to all the racers that have entered the race and the pre-fun run. I am working on the revised mileage and the Pit Mileage and Race Mileage will be posted on Tuesday, July 8. Again, I apologize. This letter is also posted under the "Vegas to Reno" file and is probably easier to read than on the home page. The Pre-Fun Run instructions and schedule has also been revised. News Flash, just got off the phone with the BLM and just got an additional 35-miles at the north end of the course, so this will help off-set some of the lost mileage. Click on read more... |

Bilek Racing Silver State "300" |
 |
 |
Casey and I just recently got back from a trip to Eastern Nevada, the Caliente/Pioche area. We were doing some course work in our Yamaha Rhino and I have to tell you it was an incredible trip. I haven't been out on a course in quite some time, and it had rained the week before our trip, but I have to tell you it was absolutely beautiful! The course was fun, lots of sandwashes, we saw a dead rattle snake, a redtail hawk, lots of bunny rabbits and I know a mountain lion was lurking around (very scary!) Anyway, just want to let you know that you have to race this race, the course was so much fun and really scenic! Also, going to Caliente is like stepping back in time, very historic and would be a great experience for your kids! |

"Vegas to Reno" Pre-Fun Run dates corrected |
 |
 |
There is an error on the 2008 Hotel/Motel Guide for the TSCO “Vegas to Reno” Pre-Fun Run. The correct dates of the pre-fun run are Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd. You need to have hotel rooms in Pahrump on Friday night, August 1st, and rooms in Tonopah on Saturday, August 2nd. The documents posted on our site are now corrected.
Also, the Update… The Latest Info pink sheet that is going out in the mailing also has the incorrect dates on it. Once again, it should read Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd.
Sorry for our mistake on these two items.
Again, the correct dates and locations are:
Friday, August 1, 2008 - Pre-Fun Run Registration, 1-night in Pahrump
Saturday, August 2, 2008 - Pre-Fun Run starts, 1-night in Tonopah
Sunday, August 3, 2008 - Pre-Fun Run continues

TSCO "Vegas to Reno" Updates |
 |
 |
Newest Updates as of 6/20/08 We are NOT GOING through the silt prior to the 2007 pit #4 – Scotty’s Junction. We have a new course and pit area BLM approved out which bypasses the silt.
We don’t like silt either!
Also, the exact measurements of the underpass approximately at Mile Marker 185 are 7’ High and 10’ Wide. There will be an alternative route around it, which will be controlled by Best In The Desert for the safety of all. This alternative route will be escorted by a Best In The Desert Official and will be a time delay up to 4 minutes. We have heard that someone has made a posting with an alternative route –that route is not correct.
We are gearing up for a great 2008 TSCO "Vegas to Reno" event! We have put the mileage chart up in the VtoR file to help you get started with your logistics and pit plan. Revised as of 6/16/08 Just made a correction in the Chase Mileage from Pit # 5 to Pit # 6, it is 20 miles, not 30! Pit #9 to Pit # 10 is 16.4 miles (not 13.7) and from Pit #9 to Pit #12 is 59.6 miles (not 50.6.) The corrections are made on the chart and updated as we make corrections.
Special Note for Trucks There is an underpass that is 7' high and 10' wide. Do not put your lights on until after Mile 210 or Pit #6. It is NOT 7'1" high, it is 7' high. If your vehicle is higher than 7' with your lights on DO NOT put them on to start!
We hope this information helps you get started to race "The Longest Off-Road Race In The United States". The entry forms and mailing will go out early July! If we send information out too early people lose it.
The Entry Forms are now posted, but again, the pre-printed entry forms and information letter will go out early July, you may use either. If you download the entry forms we prefer them on legal size paper, although we know not everyone has legal size paper, so don't let that stop you. Also, if a minor is racing we prefer the official entry form, page 2, be notarized, but you can use the Minor Form, either one is acceptable.
Motorcycle & Quad Pit Service Chris Blais with Blais Racing Services will be providing pit support to any KTM MC or KTM Quad team. All teams must have a dry brake fueling system on their mc/q. They will take 20 teams, and are almost there, so call today to book your KTM pit service. For KTM pit support, please contact Chris or Patty Blais @ 760-961-9127 or email at chrisb@blaisracing.com.
MARS Racing is offering ANY Motorcycle or Quad Remote Pit Support Only at Pit # 12, Rawhide, the Remote Pit. For more information contact Marty @ 714-392-9175 or Mark @ 562-544-7118.
Baja Pits are also planning on helping with pit support. Contact Carlos Orozco @ 619-596-8033 for more information.
We hope you have a great summer and we're really looking forward to this year's TSCO "Vegas to Reno"!

Revision to CT Rule Book - Class 7200 Width Rule Revisioin |
 |
 |
Class 7200 Width Rule Final Revision 3/19/08 There has been much confusion about how we are going to measure the track width. After a full investigation we have come to a final conclusion. Please click "read more" to read the letter that was sent to every Class 7200 participant to read the final decision.
REVISED SPECIAL NOTE as of 3/3/08 I am very sorry, I made a mistake and I am going to again revise the rule. After additional review and numerous phone calls I have decided to NOT allow Superchargers in any class, including Class 7200. I am only allowing Turbochargers on Diesel-powered vehicles, the same rule as it's always been (SCR 33). I apologize for any inconvenience or expense this may have caused.
No Longer Effective - this is the Incorrect Special Note: Due to speaking with numerous professional engine builders Best In The Desert decided NOT to allow Turbochargers & Superchargers in Class 1400 & Class 1500. However, factory installed or aftermarket turbochargers are permitted on diesel-powered vehicles in all classes. This rule in the Car/Truck rule book has been revised as of 2/22/08.
Attention Class 7200 Participants Starting at the Terrible's "250" at Primm, Tech Inspection, be prepared to have your race vehicles track width measured at both pre-race tech and at a post-race tech. The rule is track width limited to 85". Best In The Desert Tech Crew is going to be very strict on this rule. Special Note: No superchargers or turbochargers allowed in Class 7200, except diesel-powered vehicles are allowed a turbocharger. |

About Best In The Desert
Best In The Desert Inc. Racing is owned and operated entirely by Casey Folks, with offices at Sportsman Cycle 3475C Boulder Highway, Las Vegas, Nevada 89121. The entire remaining staff consists largely of volunteer off-road racing enthusiasts dedicated to the sport of racing. The Philosophy of the organization is to provide top quality, World class Off-Road Racing events, and more importantly to make those events exciting, spectacular, fun, different, well paying, and most of all, affordable.
Based on over three decades of experience founded on years of sponsoring and promoting successful local and national events. Best In The Desert has, in the last fourteen years reached for a new frontier in the sport of Off-Road Racing. Using promotion and advertising techniques previously reserved for high density spectator events, and combining them with both genuine concern for both racers needs and environmentalists input, Best In The Desert along with its competitors and sponsors now enjoys recognition and exposure never before seen in Off-Road Racing.
Our organization currently has a constantly updated computer mailing list that reaches over 4000 professional and amateur racers several times a year. Over 50,000 mailers, entry blanks, posters and flyers are distributed across the United States. Along with the Professional and Sportsman Off-Road Races, Best In The Desert also takes part in local club races, and has a number of family and celebrity trail rides throughout the year. These celebrity events involve local businessmen and members of the political community, and are designed to create public awareness and acceptability.
In the future our organization plans to continue providing bigger and better events. Based on this desire, we are seeking additional national sponsorships for our races and for our series. If you would like to become a part of our exciting and growing organization please contact us at our Main Office or for more information call Casey Folks (702) 457-5775
